Very Handy, Very Dandy: 1001 Children’s Books You Must Read Before You Grow Up

1001 Children’s Books You Must Read Before You Grow Up is such a fantastic, handy book to have. It’s a clever title: since it would be nearly impossible to read all 1001 books in a lifetime, it’s essentially saying you should never grow up. (That’s a nice idea in principle, though if you  ever start a small business and one day you and your business partner find yourselves eyeballs-deep in QuickBooks and Excel and receipts and tax forms, you’ll realize that you may just have grown up without having a say in the matter.)
1001 Children’s Books was given to us as a gift before our son was born. We’ve been geekily marking pages of the books we’ve read with stickies. The book is organized by age, so you can start at the front when your little one is born and work your way to the back. It has recommendations all the way up to age 12+.
If you’re looking for a great gift for expectant parents, or you’re a parent yourself and want a tome with more recommendations then you’ll likely get to in a lifetime (and thus, an excuse to not grow up), give this book a look.
