Celebrating International Literacy Day and Back To School

It’s International Literacy Day today!  This day, created by The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), was first observed in 1966 and was meant to remind the world that literacy is a human right and the foundation of all learning. Today reminds us just how crucial reading is for all people and communities worldwide.

Each day this week, to acknowledge International Literacy Day and the back-to-school season, we will post practical, research-based tips for supporting and encouraging young readers. Each tip was written by Chazmin Baechler, an education consultant who received her Masters in Education from Northwestern University. We’re thrilled to have her contributing to our humble blog. Keep an eye out each day this week to pick up a few great ideas for promoting your child’s early literacy skills.
